The pomegranate is a fruit-bearing deciduous shrub or small tree in the family Lythraceae. It is a native to North America and western Asia. The symbolism of the Pomegranate has been important to many cultures over the centuries - the fruit represented prosperity and fertility. In Armenian mythology for example, a bride would hurl a pomegranate against a wall, smashing it and scattering the seeds, ensuring that the family would be very fertile. Black seemed to be the perfect background for this luscious and vibrant fruit. |
